Celebrating Mexican Independence at a Fiesta in El Águila

On Mexican Independence Day, September 16, Rotarian Donn Zellet hosted 30 friends, including many Rotarians, to the community of El Aguila to celebrate with about 50 families there. We enjoyed a walking tour featuring a communal kitchen and tortilleria, a church and the pre-school, where we met with the teacher, Maribelle.

​At the community center we were treated to a wonderful meal of authentic local cuisine including empanadas, pambazos, pozole, tamales and Donn's chiles en nogada. We ended the afternoon with lively music and dance of culturally enriching national pride.
