On Sunday, September 13, members and guests of the Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende–Midday gathered for our second Fellowship event of the Rotary year, organized by the Membership Committee.

The goal was simple: to bring our members together, enjoy the countryside, and take the opportunity to get to know one another beyond our weekly meetings and service projects. Although service is at the heart of what we do, we also believe in following Rotary’s unofficial Rule No. 5: “Is it Fun?” And this Sunday was definitely fun!

Our gathering took place at
Rancho Vibora de Cascabel, in Los López, just about a 20-minute drive from San Miguel de Allende. Despite the threatening weather and the possibility of rain, the event went beautifully, with 22 members and guests joining us for an afternoon of fellowship.

A Unique Place to Discover - Rancho Vibora de Cascabel is a truly special and artistic property. Approximately 20 years ago, Peggy Powell Morgan and her husband, Craig Powell, created these unique dwellings with the help of a well-known local architect. The approximately six-acre property features extensive gardens, secluded spaces, beautiful trees and flowers, and a peaceful countryside atmosphere. Rosario Jiménez and her three children work hard to care for the gardens and the five horses that call the ranch home.

Peggy and Craig developed a deep love and respect for the environment and wildlife while living in California. When they moved to Mexico, they hoped to find that same connection with nature here. They named their property “Rattle Snake Ranch,” inspired by their affection for the rattlesnakes they had encountered in California. Ironically, much to their disappointment, they never actually spotted one in Mexico!

Good Food, Good Company - No Fellowship gathering is complete without sharing a meal. Our guests enjoyed pork ribs, elotes and fruit salad, all prepared by Rosario, while conversations, laughter and new connections filled the afternoon. Events like this remind us that membership is not only about attending meetings or participating in projects. It is also about building relationships, creating friendships and developing a stronger sense of community within our Club.
