Rotary Clubs Host District Breakfast in San Miguel

On Saturday, November 16, the San Miguel Midday Rotary Club, in coordination with Club Rotario, Club Rotario SMART and the Rotaract Club of San Miguel, hosted the Rotary District 4140 Breakfast at Hotel Real de Minas. This Rotary district includes 107 Rotary clubs and 40 Rotaract clubs located in seven states in Mexico. The event was attended by 177 Rotarians and Rotaractors and included a project fair and a workshop on service projects and how to secure district grants and global grants from The Rotary Foundation.

The event was officially opened by District Governor Claudia Lara. President of the Midday Rotary Club Lee Carter spoke on the importance of using the many resources available from Rotary to conduct needs assessments and to support community service projects. Other speakers addressed the topics of working with Rotary CADREs, who are subject matter experts in Rotary International's seven areas of focus, and how to start, execute and track the results of successful, impactful service projects.

Finally, Rebeca Medoza with The Rotary Foundation, based in Evanston, Illinois, USA, provided tips and guidelines for what qualifies a project for a global grant. Rebeca had spent the week leading up to the event meeting with the local San Miguel Rotary clubs and visiting several of the Midday Rotary Club's service projects.

Rebeca Mendoza of The Rotary Foundation Visited San Miguel Midday Rotary Club Projects: Rain harvesting water cisterns, Dry composting toilets, Skills for Success, Mitigare Hospice Center, the Girls’ Empowerment Program and EEESMA (Escuela De Educación Especial, the school for deaf students)
