Our History of Community Service Projects


Rotary of San Miguel Midday has invested more than $1,000,000 USD in our community. Here are some of our projects. The club has throughout its 15 years has concentrated on developing and implementing community service projects. The first project was implemented in 2007. The following list indicates the majority of the projects and their initial year of implementation. Some projects were implemented over several years. In total a little more than $1,000,000 USD equaling approx. $17,500,000 pesos has been invested in the projects.

  • 2021 Mobile Library. US$46,000. Mobile library vehicle to visit 10 rural communities per week offering opportunities for book lending and improved literacy with the objective to establish permanent libraries in rural communities. Project partner: CASA.
  • 2020 The San Miguel Public Library University Scholarship Committee has identified 40 students out of 100 scholarship students who have no access to computers now that the virus has limited access to internet cafes. Rotary Midday has created a partnership with the Public Library to raise funds to provide laptops to those students without them.  We have purchased 20 laptops to date and hope for more donations so this project can reach completion soon.

  • 2008 Building from “dried bricks method” a Casita Linda home for poor families
  • 2008 Equipment and teaching material for Hospice San Miguel
  • 2008 Water harvesting pilot project in San Miguel Viejo
  • 2008 Bi-national Diabetes Conference 150+ attendance at Real de Minas
  • 2009 Computers for schools – jointly with Computadores por Jovenes
  • 2009 Water testing equipment for CEDESA
  • 2009 Furniture and equipment for Casa de los Angeles Day Care center
  • 2009 Diabetic Retinopathy – Matching Grant for special camera and laser equipment- for the general hospital (US$50,000)
  • 2009 Water harvesting cisterns (initial project in Los Torres)
  • 2010 Used trucks for the city´s  fire department
  • 2012 Supplies for the Children´s Art Foundation
  • 2013 Developing Ecocina Stoves and the matching production plant (Global Grant)
  • 2013 Providing soccer uniforms for an orphanage school
  • 2013 Equipment for the School for Special Needs
  • 2014 Global Grant for 120 water harvesting systems in San Miguel rural communities. (US$78,000)
  • 2015 Global Grant for Escuela Especial de Educacion, (Occupational Opportunities Development) US$106,00)
  • 2015 Global Grant 1524911 (US$199,400) for 315 more water cisterns.
  • 2016 District Grant D5080 with Rotary Walla Walla for US$11,000 in medical equipment
  • 2016 Club to Club Grant with Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise to translate “What is Peace” into Spanish and distribute via thumb drive. US$4,000
  • 2017 Club grant to support COCIRA members to attend 120 hour diplomado about the Independence Aquifer from Dr Marcos Adrian Ortega, UNAM
  • 2017 Working with Camino de la Paz, both San Miguel Rotary Clubs worked to install a permanent UNESCO monument to peace in Parque Juarez
  • 2017 Planting of trees and other plants to beautify local park
  • 2017 Writing contest with students with the theme of the story of one of the toys in the Toy Museum
